Just DANCE....It'll Be Okay!

So I have a confession to make....I LOVE dance! Not many people know that, but now the cat is out of the bag! When I was little I remember always wanting to take dance classes and be involved in it, but I only took one ballet, tap, and jazz class. Then when I was in 8th grade I did a dance class at school, which was fun, and I loved performing in the concert at the end of the semester. Then I took another dance class in 10th grade, which was still fun, but everyone in that class was interested in learning hip hop dance, and so that was my teachers main focus.....definitely not my favorite, so that kind of dampened my desire to dance. Well, that same year I had two amazing experiences. One was doing a tri-stake dance festival for youth conference. We spent many weeks of mutual learning a dance. It was split up based on age group and ward, so the whole program consisted of many dances. Then after a few months of practices we had a huge performance. It was a blast! Also, that same year I had the opportunity to be in this dance performance for a New Beginnings program for young womens. I spent many weeks learning dances from my young womens leader with some youth she worked with in her show choir (I was the only one from my ward in it). Then we performed the dances for a young womens program in my ward and in another ward! It was AMAZING! For that program, we did partner dances (there were 3 boys and 3 girls in the group), which consisted of waltz and swing dance. I fell in love! After that experience I realized that my true dance passion belonged to partner dancing.

Well, for the past three years I haven't done anything dance related. However, recently I have had that desire to dance again. Part of that came from the fireside from Jenee Prince that I mentioned before. In the fireside she talked about having fun and developing talents. After hearing that, I decided it would be fun to live up my desire to dance again! So I did some research and found a dance studio, Fred Astaire, that teaches ballroom dance! At first, I was a little nervous or hesitant to start the lessons. However, I toughed it up and had my first lesson today and all I can say is I AM IN LOVE!

The first two lessons I have to do are thirty minute private lessons with an instructor. I was a little scared that it would be awkward to spend thirty minutes dancing with a random guy. However, it wasn't awkward at all. He is a really good teacher and was very good about keeping conversations to keep things from being awkward or weird! So, that was very helpful. Today we did the fox trot, rhumba, and some swing and it felt so good to be dancing! The half hour flew by too quickly and I didn't want it to end! I just wanted to keep dancing for hours!

So there is my confession! I have a love for dance and it has just been revived in me! More to come after I progress further in it!
